About the department

Department of Anatomy was established in 2002 in MOSC Medical College. Department is dedicatedly teaching and training 1st year MBBS students for laying a strong foundation in their medical journey. We are continuously active in implementing latest concepts and technologies to enhance the process of learning Anatomy. Focus is also laid on encouraging quality research by faculty and students. Main thrust areas for research in the dept of anatomy are anthropometry, human genetics, neuroanatomy, and modern embalming techniques.

Vision: The department aims to be a center of excellence in providing knowledge of anatomy and quality medical education and research.

Mission: We as a team hope to provide a firm foundation in learning human anatomy and to emphasize the practical application of anatomical knowledge in clinical settings and to foster professionalism, ethics, and critical thinking skills in students.

Facilities

  • State of the art Cunningham Hall (Dissection Hall)- providing practical hands-on training to students for learning anatomy through dissection of cadavers. Dissection hall is equipped with dissection tables, safety equipment’s, audio-visual aids for instruction and cadaver tanks and mortuary. We also emphasize the importance of ethical treatment and respect towards cadavers.
  • Histology lab is well equipped with binocular and trinocular projection microscope. We also have histology preparation lab with tissue processors, microtomes, embedding and staining instruments for preparing slides for microscopic examination.
  • Museum of Anatomy has wide collection of specimens which includes dissected human parts, fetuses showing different stages of development and rare congenital anomalies. Also have numerous embryology models, plain and contrast x-ray films, adult and foetal skeletons and disarticulated set of bones.
  • Departmental library provides convenient access of latest edition textbooks and journals to support the learning needs of students and faculty.
  • Dedicated space for embalming designed for preservation and preparation of cadavers for anatomical study and refrigeration units to maintain the bodies.

Future expansion

  • Establishment of well-equipped cadaveric skill lab and genetics lab to conduct multidisciplinary hands-on workshops.

Voluntary body donation

  • It involves the selfless act of donating body after death to medical institutions for purpose of anatomical study, research, and training. There is an extraordinary demand for this valuable gift (donated bodies) and to donate, one needs to register with the medical college, with the consent of relatives.
